You will probably know that most registered hearing aid dispensers will not or cannot assess a child's hearing or fit hearing aids. You have perhaps already contacted one of the major high street chains. You and they know that children are not simply small adults, and there are very special skills required to work with children. Dr Russell has over 25 years experience working with deaf and hearing impaired babies and children and has dispensed children's hearing aids to many hundreds of babies and children over the years  - many of whom now have children of their own!   

Your child has only ONE chance

A child's early years are vitally important for the normal develpment of speech and language.  Finding the best children's hearing aids for your child will help.  But testing hearing aids on children is much more complex than testing on adults.   Adults can tell the audiologist if the hearing aid is too quiet or too loud, and if it is working correctly. Babies and young children cannot do this. It is important to work with a paediatric audiologist, that is, a hearing aid specialist who is registered dispenser, who has experience fitting and testing hearing aids on young children.  

 

You need an expert

Children's hearing aids must be set carefully and individually for each child. When choosing what hearing aids are needed for a child, the audiologist will consider some important information:

• The degree and type of your child's hearing loss
• The durability and suitability of the hearing aid
• The service available to you & your child from the manufacturer
• The hearing aids ability to connect to other devices that are used in school or nursery
• The desirability of other equipment to ameliorate the negative effects of background noise and reverberation
