Hearing Test

Do you think that you may be suffering from a hearing loss? If you are able, why not take our interactive hearing test below which will give you an indication of whether you should consult an Audiologist. Please note that this should be used merely as a guide - it may not be suitable for young children. If you think you are suffering from a loss please contact us for a consultation where an Audiologist will come and do a full hearing test of which details of the procedure appear below.

Hearing Test Procedure

These normally take between 1 hour to 1.5 hours depending on the severity of the hearing loss and the age of the client. This allows for:

  • An understanding of yours or your child's medical history regarding your hearing problems, whether hearing aids have been worn previously.
  • Auroscopic examination of the ears using an otoscope to check for any abnormalities or blockages.
  • Air conduction (AC) hearing test to determine the degree of hearing loss.
  • Bone conduction (BC) hearing test to determine the type of hearing loss, using a bone conductor placed behind the worst ear. Sounds generated by vibrations are heard in the Cochlea. This type of test gives us a better understanding of what caused the hearing loss. Further tests may be necessary dependant on the outcome of the first two tests.
  • A clear explanation of the hearing tests results will be provided.
  • We will recommend the most suitable hearing aid based on the hearing loss, budget and lifestyle. You can decide to think about it and discuss the consultation further with family and friends, or....
  • You may decide to proceed further, in which case The Hearing Aid Audiologist will take impressions of yours or your child's ears (if necessary) and fill in an agreement form with you. NO DEPOSIT IS TAKEN AT THIS POINT - Full payment of the hearing aids are due at the fitting of the hearing aids.
  • The Hearing aids generally take 2 weeks to fit but in certain circumstances the time scale can be shortened.
