Dr Russell has dedicated the whole of his career (25 years) to working with deaf and hearing impaired children. He is a well experienced and qualified teacher of hearing impaired children, paediatric audiologist and a registered hearing aid dispenser. This places Dr Russell in the unique position of being able to intimately understand the needs of hearing impaired children and to take steps to optimise their chances and opportunities in life. There is no other professional in the country with this blend of qualifications. Dr. Russell has fitted hundreds of children's hearing aids over the years.
Dr Russell graduated with a teaching qualification from the Lady Spencer Churchill College, Oxford in 1978; his specialist teaching qualification in deaf education was awarded by the same institution in 1979; he completed a degree with the Open University in 1982 in computer science; Dr Russell continued studying to complete a masters degree in paediatric audiology in 1990, at the University of Manchester and then to undertake a seven year doctoral research programme examining the effects of classroom acoustics in children, which resulted in him being awarded a PhD by the University of Manchester in 2006. Dr Russell is a registered hearing aid dispenser. 
Dr Russell has written several articles relating to paediatric audiology for professional peer-reviewed journals and for academic books on audiology. He has been an honary lecturer in audiology at the University of Manchester and trained many masters degree level audiology students.
Dr Russell lives in Southport, in the north west of England and works nearby in Wigan.
